Galapagos Enchanted Islands
Green Coffee
Galapagos Enchanted Islands green coffee is a certified organic, washed-process Bourbon lot from San Cristóbal Island in the Galapagos, sold in 20 kg bulk. The lot is sourced from Hacienda El Cafetal, the Gonzalez family farm acquired in 1990 on the island's sun-facing southern slopes. Galapagos coffee represents a tiny share of the world's specialty supply – certified organic Galapagos lots are rarer still.
Cupping Profile
The Bourbon varietal, combined with low-altitude growing conditions tempered by the Humboldt Current, produces a cup with structural weight unusual for tropical island coffees. The lot suits cafés and roasters who want a single-origin filter or pour-over offer with a distinctive provenance story. Expect pronounced aromatics, full body, and concentrated richness in the cup. These are pre-roast indications of cup potential, not finished-cup descriptors.
Processing
This lot is fully washed. Cherries are hand-picked at peak ripeness on Hacienda El Cafetal's volcanic slopes, then depulped, fermented, and dried in the equatorial sun. The growing environment is the lot's defining feature. The altitude is modest – 180 to 450 metres – but the Humboldt Current cools the islands' equatorial latitude to a maritime climate. Slow bean development produces cup density typically associated with much higher elevations. Mineral-rich freshwater from the El Junco crater lake irrigates the volcanic soil, and screen 16+ bean size reflects the steady, unhurried maturation.
