Brazil Bela Vista Peaberry
Green Coffee
Brazil Bela Vista Peaberry is a certified organic, natural-process Brazilian green coffee, sold in 20 kg bulk. The lot comes from Fazenda Bela Vista in Nepomuceno, Sul de Minas, southern Minas Gerais. The Reis family has owned Bela Vista for generations, combining established Brazilian farming methods with sustainable farming practices. The peaberry lot draws from across the estate's plots at 1,050 to 1,350 metres altitude. Peaberry is a shape grade, not a cultivar. Bela Vista's peaberry lot is hand-sorted to select the round, single-bean cherries that occur naturally in any harvest at 5-10% yield.
Cupping Profile
Peaberry lots typically read more concentrated than flat-bean lots from the same harvest. The cherry's full sugar and acid load develops in a single bean rather than two. This Brazilian peaberry preserves the chocolate and nut character common to Bela Vista coffees, with peaberry concentration adding depth across the cup. Moderate acidity and notes of dried fruits are also a part of its cup potential. The lot suits cafés building a specialty single-origin program or roasters offering peaberry as a distinct shape-grade selection.
Processing
This lot is natural-processed. Cherries are hand-picked at peak ripeness and dried whole on patios or raised beds. The fruit remains around the bean throughout drying, contributing sweetness and body to the cup. After drying, the lot is hand-sorted to separate peaberries from the standard flat-bean coffee. This Brazilian peaberry lot includes Yellow Catuai, Mundo Novo, Topázio, and Yellow Bourbon cultivars from the estate's plots.
