Kenya AA Plus

Green Coffee

Kenya AA Plus is a certified washed-process Kenyan coffee, sold in 20 kg bulk. The lot is sourced from the MapMtaro Estate in Thika district, central Kenya. Kenya AA is the Kenyan grade for Screen 17–18 washed Arabica, reserved for the largest and densest beans in the country's processing system. This lot is cultivated at 1,600 metres on the SL28 cultivar. SL28 is a celebrated heirloom Arabica known across the trade for its bright, complex cup.

Cupping Profile

When perfectly caramelised, expect the bright acidity and complex fruit character that define SL28-grown Kenyan coffee, with blackcurrant and citrus notes underpinned by wine-like depth. SL28 from high-altitude Kenya produces a cup profile that the specialty trade treats as a reference for washed African Arabicas. Kenya AA's large screen size and density support extended development on the roaster, which preserves the cultivar's signature clarity. The lot suits cafés and roasters building a single-origin filter program around a benchmark Kenyan.

Processing

This lot is fully washed under Kenya's traditional double-fermentation method. Cherries are hand-picked at peak ripeness, then pulped, fermented, and washed thoroughly before sun-drying. MapMtaro Estate has two annual harvests, from April to September and from October to December. It yields roughly 260 metric tons of coffee per year. The estate employs around 300 workers and runs a worker welfare program covering housing, healthcare, education, and a women's welfare committee. Environmental practices on the estate include minimized agrochemical use, naturally filtered wastewater, and composted cherry pulp as fertilizer. An active reforestation program and soil conservation techniques round out the sustainability commitment.
