ARIEL Japanese Bancha
Green Tea
ARIEL Japanese Bancha is a whole leaf Japanese green tea available in a 1 kg bulk format, Kosher certified. Harvested later in the season than Sencha from older, lower leaves, it produces a lighter, lower-caffeine cup with its own distinct character. A practical addition to a Japanese green tea programme alongside Sencha.
Tasting Notes
The cup is a clear, pale golden-green with a mild, grassy character and a gentle vegetal note. The flavour is lighter and less astringent than Sencha, with a clean, refreshing finish. The flat, broad leaves are visually distinctive in a loose leaf display.
Origin
Bancha is produced throughout Japan from the same plant as Sencha, but from the second or later harvests of the season. The larger, more mature leaves are steamed and dried flat rather than needle-rolled, giving the tea its distinctive flat leaf shape. It is Japan's most widely consumed everyday green tea.
Brewing
Steep 2.5 g per 200 ml at 90 °C for 2 minutes. The short steep time is characteristic of Bancha. At 2.5 g per portion, a 1 kg bag yields approximately 400 portions.
