Tie Kuan Yin sits at the lighter end of the oolong spectrum, producing a clean, approachable cup without the roasted depth of darker styles. Accessible for guests new to oolong and credible to experienced palates.

Origin

Tie Kuan Yin originates from Anxi County in Fujian Province, China, where it has been cultivated for centuries. The name translates as 'Iron Goddess of Mercy' – a reference that still resonates on menus for guests familiar with Chinese tea culture. The tightly rolled leaves unfurl during steeping, making it well suited to loose leaf service.

Brewing

Steep 2.5 g per 200 ml at 95 °C for 3 to 4 minutes. At this ratio, a 1 kg bag yields approximately 400 portions – a useful baseline for programme planning.

Additional Information

Ingredient: Oolong tea leaves

Format: 1 kg bulk loose leaf

Certifications: Kosher

Foundation: Humaniterra Foundation

Type: Oolong tea, single origin, loose leaf
